Ecotherapy For Grief

Ecotherapy - also known as nature therapy - is increasingly recognized as a powerful and holistic way to support healing from grief. Join therapist Christina Wilson, MSW, RSW in a small private workshop to design and create a tribute garden. Each garden can include a memorial stone, solar lighting, and hardy perennial with expert ecotherapy and horticultural guidance.

Benefits Of Ecotherapy

Emotional Healing and Stress Reduction

Time in nature lowers cortisol levels and blood pressure tends to improve mood, reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression - effects that are especially helpful when grieving. Nature provides a calm, non-judgmental setting where you can process grief at your own pace.

Mindfulness, Grounding & Perspective

Encourages engagement with all five senses to anchor attention in the present moment and interrupt ruminative grief cycles. The focused presence cultivated by mindfulness improves memory, clarity, and attention--which grief often fragments--contributing to better mental agility and emotional clarity

Connection, Community & Belonging

Group ecotherapy - like community gardening - helps diminish grief-induced isolation through shared experiences and social support. Ecotherapy also fosters a deeper connection to ourselves, others, and the larger living world.

Resilience, Rebuilding Purpose & Growth

Nature’s cycles and resilience can inspire similar emotional resilience in us. Watching regrowth after seasons of dormancy helps normalize healing processes. Gardening in memory of someone gives grief an outlet and direction—planting, tending, nurturing a living tribute helps reframe loss into ongoing care and legacy.
